FAQ

Common questions about DPDP compliance

Does the DPDP Act apply to my business?+

If your organisation processes digital personal data of individuals in India — customers, users or employees — the DPDP Act very likely applies, regardless of your size. It can also apply to organisations outside India that offer goods or services to people in India.

What are the penalties for non-compliance?+

The Data Protection Board of India can impose penalties of up to ₹250 crore for certain failures, such as not taking reasonable security safeguards to prevent a personal data breach. Non-compliance can also damage customer trust.

We already comply with GDPR. Do we still need to act?+

Yes. GDPR compliance is a strong foundation, but the DPDP Act has India-specific requirements around consent, children's data, grievance redressal and breach notification. A gap assessment helps you reuse existing controls and close the remaining gaps.

Do you work with startups and small businesses?+

Absolutely. Our startup privacy packages are designed to be affordable and right-sized, so you can build privacy into your business early without slowing growth.

What happens in the first consultation?+

We discuss your business, the personal data you handle and your current practices, then recommend practical next steps. The initial discovery call is free and there is no obligation to proceed.

Can you work alongside our legal and IT teams?+

Yes. Our technology and law background means we work comfortably with legal, engineering, product and security teams, translating legal obligations into controls they can implement.
